| | Past Project: - The Ukraine (Bukovina Region) Project In August 2006, Burnaby Rotarians proudly participated in a Donation and Dedication ceremony in the Neuro-Trauma Hospital on Fastivska St. in Cherbnivtsi, Ukraine. Through collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ternopil, the Rotary Club of Burnaby donated the following equipment to the neuro-trauma hospital: a brand new operating table and accessories, a Mayfield Headrest System and a surgeon’s headlight. A blessing and dedication of the donated items followed and Rotarian representatives, operating room staff and surgeon’s participated in the brief ceremony.
The neurosurgeon, Dr. Shutka stated the operating table was the best in Bukovina, a region of almost a million people. On a short round with Dr. Shutka, team members, Pamela Gardner, Dr. Jean Hlady, Myrna Aychuk and Dianna Krawchuk witnessed the extremely deprived conditions that both patients and medical staff are required to endure. The Dean of the Medical Academy noted that although many people have come and promised to help, it was four women who saw the project through to completion. This donation marks the start of what we hope will eventually be a properly outfitted neurosurgical theatre. Our goal for Phase II is the purchase of a used microscope and microsurgical instruments.
The “Bukovina Team”, on behalf of all patients who will benefit from this neurosurgical equipment, would like to thank all individuals who have attended “To the Heart of the Matter” in the past. We invite you to help us continue this project which will result in saving lives and preventing heartbreak of people who have suffered the unnecessary loss of a loved one. | |
